Things that I learned during a 2-week break.

After the demo was released, and most of the bugs were fixed, I decided to take a break and give myself a fresh start for the next step of the project. I Decided to play a few games that were on my list, and it helped me change a few things about boss battles:

  • I noticed that games like Final Fantasy VII Remake and Monster Hunter gave haptic feedback when the boss is damaged, but the bosses did not flinch. This caused a constant state of danger that would increase the difficulties of the boss.

  • Final Fantasy XVI has something similar, but when the boss flinched, it was very quick. there were milliseconds instead of seconds worth of animations happening, so although you stop the boss, it can immediately attack.

  • Bows are an important part of Hub world exploration, so I am working on making the bow feel as good as possible, I made a bunch of progress, and this will be revealed soon. possibly during the next update

The 2 main focuses are to update the dialogue system and quests, along with re-creating the hub world to look better, as well as be more optimized. I obtained a few non-destructive terrain tools that will make iteration faster and will make the world look more alive. I am hoping that by the end of the year I should have something that will be a snapshot of how I want the world to look, along with quests and the introduction of the Job board.

Hopefully you are enjoying what is available so far. As always, communication is key, let me know what I can improve on while I am performing updates, and this will possibly help the game reach its potential.
